Contest Remains Tight For East Bay Assembly Seat

DUBLIN (CBS SF) – In one of the most hotly contested Assembly races in the state, voters in several East Bay communities are deciding between Democrat Tim Sbranti and Republican Catharine Baker to represent the 16th District.

With 52.9 percent of precincts reporting at 11:20 p.m., Baker is leading Sbranti 51.7 percent to 48.3 percent.

Sbranti is Mayor of Dublin and a teacher, while Baker is an attorney.

The race has attracted plenty of cash, particularly from conservative activist Charles Munger, who has poured $1.5 million into the race supporting Baker.

The 16th District covers much of the inland East Bay, including the Tri-Valley cities of Dublin, Livermore and Pleasanton, the Lamorinda area (Lafayette, Moraga and Orinda) and Walnut Creek.
