GameDay: Kaepernick's Season-Saving Throw Was Not His Greatest Play

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX 5) -- Ok. Enough already. I've been hearing for over 24 hours how great Colin Kaepernick's throw was to Michael Crabtree on that 4th-and-10 play that saved the game against the New Orleans Saints Sunday and maybe the season for the 49ers.

Even one of our producers called it the greatest throw of his career. The truth is, it was a desperate throw, an underthrow, and was completed only because Saints cornerback Corey White blew his coverage and left Crabtree to cover the tight end Vernon Davis coming across the middle.

It wasn't a cover-two defense. White simply blew it. Had he stayed with Crabtree the ball would have been either incomplete or intercepted.

Yes, it turned out to be the play that tied the game and I give credit to Kaepernick for scrambling to buy enough time to find a receiver.

It was not, however, the greatest play of Kaepernick's career. Please.
