Driver Allegedly High On Methadone Smashes Car Into Richmond Utility Box, Knocking Power Out For 3,600 Residents

RICHMOND (CBS SF) -- At least 3,600 Marina Bay residents were without power Sunday afternoon after an impaired driver crashed his car into a PG&E utility box, according to Richmond police.

The 27-year-old man was allegedly under the influence of marijuana and methadone, the police department tweeted.

"The guy is really lucky," Sgt. Nicole Abetkov told the Contra Costa Times. "If his car was positioned differently he could have been electrocuted."

The uninjured driver had another DUI arrest within the last three years. It took about three hours before PG&E technicians restored power to the neighborhood.
