Rain Ushers In Rare Stormy Pattern For Bay Area

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - We could see over an inch of rain in parts of the Bay Area over the next five days in what is forecast to be the first sustained run of wet weather this season.

In total, models show three storms zeroing in, with the first striking Tuesday night.

Winds gusted at 20 miles per hour Tuesday as the storm approached shore. Those winds were expected to intensify, with showers moving in to Sonoma and Marin counties around 10 p.m. and moving south. CBS SF Weather Anchor Paul Deanno says all of the storms will come down as light to moderate showers rather than heavy rain.

The second cold front brings another round of the wet stuff into the area Thursday that could make things damp for the Raiders-Chiefs game in Oakland at 5 p.m. (The game will be broadcast on KPIX 5).

Things will taper off after that, with the final storm moving in Friday evening.

Most of the Bay Area will see significantly less than a half of an inch of rain in total, although more is possible at higher elevations, particularly north of the Golden Gate.

"The North Bay will be closest to the steady rain, and I expect 0.75" to 1.50" rain to fall north of the Golden Gate from Wednesday through Saturday. That sounds like a lot, but that much rain is exactly average for a week in November," said Deanno.

The long-range forecast provides hope that we'll see more powerful storms arrive after Thanksgiving.
