Armed Masked Men At Large After Entering Cupertino Home Demanding Money

CUPERTINO (CBS SF) -- Two masked men, at least one carrying a firearm, broke into a home in Cupertino early Monday morning, frightening its residents and stealing property before fleeing the area, according to the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff's deputies received two 911 calls at about 4:45 a.m. from residents at a home in the area of Garden Gate and Glencoe drive near De Anza Boulevard and about a quarter of a mile southwest of the campus of Apple Inc., sheriff's Sgt. Kurtis Stenderup said.

The two men, at least one armed with a gun, forced their way into the home and confronted and scared the four residents inside, Stenderup said.

The pair then stole some property items and fled out the rear of the residence, leaping over a fence before deputies arrived, Stenderup said.

"We just missed them," he said.

Deputies blocked streets near the home, set up a perimeter and searched it with a police dog but could not locate the suspects, who are not believed to be still in the area, he said.

Deputies contacted a nearby school, but the search had ended by 7:15 a.m. before classes started so they did not request that the campus be closed, he said.

The two suspects are described as African American men, one about 5 feet 7 inches and the other 6 feet 2 inches tall, each wearing black masks and black clothing, deputies said.

Deputies were still processing the crime scene  Monday morning, he said.
