Police Investigating Armed Robbery, Kidnapping Near UC Berkeley Campus

BERKELEY (KCBS) – University of California, Berkeley police said a man and woman were robbed and temporarily kidnapped early Thursday morning near campus.

Police said it happened at about 2:00 a.m..

According to the Daily Californian, the two victims were sitting in their vehicle looking out toward the bay at a dirt turn-out along Grizzly Peak Boulevard, when three men – two armed with handguns and one holding a baseball bat – approached them, demanding their money.

After the 23-year-old man and 26-year-old woman told them they didn't have any money on them, police said one of the suspects entered the vehicle and ordered the two to drive to an ATM. The other two men trailed their car in a vehicle.

Police said the man and woman turned over an unknown amount of cash, and the suspects left the scene. The victims were not harmed.

Police said the suspects are described as follows: a white male, approximately 5' 5", with a slim build, a white male, approximately 6'3" with a medium build, and a white male, approximately 5'5", with a slim build and wearing a black beanie-style cap and red hooded sweatshirt.

The suspect vehicle is described as a red, four-door, square-type vehicle. Police are asking anyone with information to contact the criminal investigation bureau at (510) 642-0472.
