Golden State Warriors Attend Richmond High Basketball Game To Show Support For Slain Teen
RICHMOND (KPIX 5) -- Members of the Golden State Warriors attended a Richmond High School basketball game to show support for the teens mourning the shooting death of a promising young athlete.
The 16-year-old was riding his motorbike in front of the home he shared with his grandfather in the 300 block of Market Avenue last month when suspects fired over 20 rounds, including a fatal hit to the chest, according to Contra Costa County sheriff's officials.
Sheriff's Office spokesman Jimmy Lee said the boy was in the "wrong place at the wrong time" when he was killed and had no gang ties or known enemies.
"It's very sad. A young man lost his life for apparently no reason at all," Warriors Assistant Head Coach Alvin Gentry told KPIX 5. Point Guard Shaun Livingston also attended the game.
Behind closed doors, the Warriors shared a private moment with team members from both Concord and Richmond and talked about how gun violence has hit the area particularly hard.
There have been no arrests in Rodney's murder. Police say he did not have any known ties to gangs, or known enemies.
