Roberta Gonzales: Powerful Storm Isn't Backing Down

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

A gentleman approached me at the Gym last night and said, "Boy, you Weather Forecasters are going to be real embarrassed if this storm is a dud."

I don't see that happening. As the window of the timing of this powerful Pacific storm narrows, rain is now detected upstream. I have complete confidence in my Weather Forecast. Usually within 24 hours of a storm approaching, there are revisions in timing of the targeted area, precipitation totals, or an update of the storm falling apart at the seams. Not this time. This mighty Pacific Storm is not backing down!

KPIX 5 Weather Center: Get the current conditions and latest forecast

What's extremely remarkable about this storm, even if the Bay Area received only HALF of what is forecast for rainfall and winds, there will still be flooding on roadways and damaging winds.

And while the city of Santa Cruz temporary lifts it's mandatory water rationing and shifts to "volunteer" rationing, I hope this does not send the wrong message. It took 3 years to create our current drought, it will take of 7 to 12 storms of this ferocity in this Winter season, to provide the necessary water to erase the deficit.

Prepare. Conserve. Exercise Caution. I hope you join me Thursday first thing in the morning, for the KPIX 5 Morning News, as I have my "Eye On The Storm". Together we will weather the storm.

I would love to hear your Weather observations and concerns! You can email me at:gonzales@kpix.cbs.com
