BART, Oakland Police Offer Escorts To Last-Minute Holiday Shoppers At MacArthur Station

OAKLAND (KCBS)— BART and Oakland police are offering escorts at the MacArthur Station to passengers doing some last-minute Christmas shopping. Police say the goal is to connect with the community while offering safety tips.

A BART coordinator said they offer this service year round by request, but that it's especially important around Christmas with so many shoppers carrying extra bags.

Tips include the basic: Be aware of your surroundings and put your cell phones away so you're not distracted.

Community service officer Aaliyah Shaw said anyone who wants can be escorted to their car at the station.

"We have a couple umbrellas, we have flashlights. It's just nice," she said.
