2014 Going Out Under Blanket Of Snow In Parts Of Southern California

(CBS SF) - The cold weather and strong winds making for a chilly end to 2014 in the Bay Area are making for a white New Year's Eve in parts of Southern California.

Folks from the south land have been tweeting for much of the day that surprise snow has left them blanketed in the white stuff and unable to get to their weekend destinations on either side of the Cajon Pass. Parts of I-15 were shut down near Hesperia due to snow.

It snowed in Orange County as well, but not just on the mile-high peaks of Saddleback that get the rare dusting. This was snow clear down the mountain with the foothills getting blanketed in white.

There are also several accidents on the I-15 freeway, meaning traffic will likely be a nightmare for folks trying to get between Southern California and Las Vegas via California's High Dessert region.

In the Bay Area, traffic was relatively light during the morning commute, but cars are expected to fill the roads during afternoon hours for the New Year's weekend getaway. Get the latest local traffic conditions here.
