72-Year-Old Woman Beaten, Robbed Near West Dublin BART Station

DUBLIN (CBS SF) – A 72-year-old woman has been hospitalized, after she was robbed and beaten near the West Dublin Bay Area Rapid Transit station in broad daylight on Wednesday.

Dublin police said the woman was walking down Golden Gate Drive just before 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, headed to the station, when she was jumped from behind and punched in the face by a robber who stole her purse and cellphone.

The suspect escaped in a waiting Honda with a driver.

Dublin police Lt. Herb Walters said this cowardly act, targeting someone who clearly can't fight back, is disturbing.

"Broad daylight, middle of the day, it's well traveled," Walters said. "Obviously the suspects didn't care. They didn't care, especially attacking a 72-year-old female."

A worker at a car repair shop across from where the attack occurred ran to help the victim. He said he thought about his mom, and if something like this were to happen to her.

Witnesses described the suspect as an African American man, about 5 feet 5 inches tall, who was last seen wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt and gray sweatpants. The suspect and a driver fled the scene in a newer model four-door Honda Accord, possibly gray or tan in color, that was heading toward Interstate 680.

Walters said they hope surveillance video will lead to some concrete information about the suspect, vehicle, and paint a better picture of the entire incident.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Dublin police.
