Victim Escapes With His Life After His Car Is Hit By 10 Gunshots At Salinas Intersection

SALINAS (CBS SF) -- Police in Salinas Saturday morning are investigating a Friday night shooting incident that could be related to a Thursday shooting.

Police said the victim, a 20-year-old man, was in his vehicle and stopped at the intersection of Bermuda Street and Rider Avenue at around 10:08 p.m. when he saw a gray sedan parked nearby.

Police said the victim reported seeing muzzle flashes coming from the vehicle as the windshield of his vehicle started shattering.

The victim ducked and was able to drive away on Rider Avenue as the suspect continued to shoot at his vehicle.

Police said investigators located 10 large caliber bullet casings at the scene where the shooting occurred.

The victim's car was hit 10 times with seven shots hitting the windshield, two hitting the side of the vehicle, and one hitting the taillight.

Police said officers at the scene of an earlier homicide on Holly Street heard the gunshots.

Police said the victim didn't have any ties to gangs, and the motive of the shooting is unknown at this time.

Police are looking into whether the Friday incident is related to a Thursday night shooting that sent a man to the hospital.

Police said the suspect car in the Friday incident matches the vehicle seen in that shooting.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Salinas Police Department at (831) 758-7250.
