Whiskey, Other Less Essential Supplies Delivered To Yosemite Climbers Tackling El Capitan
YOSEMITE (CBS SF) -- After a week-long battle with El Capitan's razor thin ledges, 30-year old Kevin Jorgeson conquered Pitch-15, and was rewarded with a supply of whiskey and other goods for the remainder of the climb.
Jorgeson's climbing partner Tommy Caldwell made it past Pitch-15 last weekend, and had been waiting for Kevin to catch up with him at a section called Wino Tower.
A photo showed the supply team getting ready to bring the necessities to the climbers including the whiskey, which they say had reached dangerously low levels.
Jorgeson, 30, of Santa Rosa and Tommy Caldwell, 36, of Colorado were about two weeks into what is billed as the first free climb of the vertical Dawn Wall to reach the 3,000-foot summit of El Capitan.
Free climb means the men are climbing without the aid of pegs, ropes or other gear to help them ascend, although they are using safety gear to guard against what could be deadly falls.
