Eric Mangini Reportedly To Be Named 49ers Defensive Coordinator

SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) -- San Francisco 49ers assistant coach Eric Mangini, who was the team's tight ends coach last season, has reportedly been tabbed to be 49ers' new defensive coordinator.

ESPN reporter Adam Schefter tweeted Thursday that Mangini was expected to receive a three-year contract as defensive coordinator under new head coach Jim Tomsula.

Before coming to the 49ers in 2013 as a senior offensive consultant, Mangini was head coach for the New York Jets and Cleveland Browns between 2006 and 2010.

Mangini was also the New England Patriots' defensive backs coach from 2000 to 2004, and the Patriots' defensive coordinator in 2005.

Earlier it was reported former Raiders interim head coach Tony Sparano would join the 49ers as new tight ends coach.
