Feds Spend $423K To Fund Study Effects Of Sex Apps Like Grindr On Gay Men's Promiscuity

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- The Federal government spent over $400,000 for studies on smartphone apps gay men use to hookup.

Columbia University was awarded a $423,000 grant from the National Institutes of Health to interview men who use smartphone GPS-based dating apps such as Grindr to find other men for sex.

"These technologies may have accelerated the rate with which men can meet and connect with sexual partners over that of the traditional internet," the study authors wrote.

60 gay men were interviewed for the study to gain insight on how the apps may contribute to risky sexual behavior.
