San Francisco Man Close To Finishing 7 Marathons On 7 Continents In 7 Days

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS/AP) — Through snow, rain and jetlag, a San Francisco man is one race away from completing seven marathons in seven days on seven continents.

Thirty-one-year old Tim Durbin is the only American competing in the World Marathon Challenge that started last Saturday and ends in Sydney, Australia on Friday morning local time.

So far, he's run six marathons: in Antarctica, Chile, Miami, Madrid, Morocco and Dubai.

Durbin is averaging about 5 ½ hours for each of the six 26.2-mile marathons.

Durbin said in an email that the Morocco marathon was the toughest. It started less than 7 hours after he completed the race in Spain.

The other competitors are from Brazil, India, Great Britain, Hong Kong, France, Finland and Australia.

Eleven of the participants have run the North Pole Marathon or Anatartcic Ice Marathon, the northernmost and southernmost marathons on earth.
