Avian Flu Outbreak In Foster Farm Turkeys In Stanislaus County
MERCED (CBS SF) -- A commercial turkey farm in Stanislaus County is under quarantine after health inspectors found avian flu in the flock.
The birds at a Foster Farms turkey farm were tested after several suddenly died. USDA inspectors found the presence the highly pathogenic H5N8 avian influenza strain.
The strain is not known to harm humans and the USDA said the affected birds will not enter the food system.
Federal and state officials have stepped up surveillance and testing in the surrounding area in an effort to prevent the spread of the disease.
