BART To San Jose Project Ahead Of Schedule, But Will Close Major Intersection For 9 Months
SAN JOSE (KCBS) — Starting Monday morning a major intersection at Sierra Road and Lundy Avenue in San Jose is being shut down for nine months as the trench digging for BART Trains begins.
Orange traffic walls now block off Lundy Avenue on both sides of Sierra Road for a nine-month road closure as construction crews will build a trench so that BART Trains can travel under the roadway.
Some commuters, like Perry Pham who rides his bicycle to Independence High School were caught off guard by the closure.
"Now I have to figure out a new way to get to school, which is really tiring because I really don't want to that," he said.
This particular stretch appears to be the most complicated portion of the project, which includes excavation, utility relocation, trench construction and roadway restoration.
The BART to San Jose project is almost a year ahead of schedule with service expected to begin in fall of 2017.
