Antioch Man Buys $1.4M Winning Powerball Ticket Because Store Didn't Have Right Scratchers

ANTIOCH (CBS SF) -- Disappointment turned into joy for an Antioch man who purchased Powerball ticket that won him over a million dollars after a store didn't have the Scratchers he wanted.

Donald Mason stopped into an Antioch store to buy Scratchers, but the store didn't have the particular game he wanted to play, so he bought himself two Powerball tickets.

When Mason realized he had matched five numbers: 16, 5, 50, 11, and 26, he ran to the store where he had purchased the tickets so fast he didn't even finish getting dressed.

"I didn't even tie my shoes," Mason told lottery officials with a chuckle.

Despite missing the sixth Powerball number, Mason's ticket earned him over $1.4 million.

"I'm in disbelief. It's still not registering."

The owner of the shop where the winning ticket was sold will receive a bonus of over $7,000.  As for Mason, one of his plans for his winnings is to fix up the car his family has affectionately nicknamed "Bucket."

"I'm finally going to get my Bucket fixed!"
