Bomb Squad Disables Explosive Device Found On Brentwood Street

BRENTWOOD (CBS SF) -- A bomb squad disabled an explosive device found on the street in Brentwood Wednesday morning, police said.

Just after 8 this morning, Brentwood police said officers responded to a report of a suspicious package in the 1100 block of Dainty Avenue.

Once the officers saw the object, they called for assistance from the county's regional bomb squad, operated by the Walnut Creek Police Department.

Brentwood police said they contacted nearby residents and advised them to shelter in place. Area schools were also notified as a courtesy, but campus activities were not interrupted, police said.

Around 12:20 p.m., bomb squad members identified the object as an explosive and disabled it using a robot, said Lt. Sal DiMercurio.

DiMercurio said he could not provide more information about the nature of the explosive because an investigation is still ongoing.

Anyone with information about the incident is encouraged to call Detective Sgt. Walter O'Grodnick at (925) 809-7752.
