Elderly San Jose Woman Dies In Mobile Home Fire

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Officials in the Santa Clara County medical examiner's office Saturday identified a woman who died in a one-alarm fire at a mobile home community in San Jose this morning as 80-year-old Jennie Mesta.

Firefighters responded at 1:51 a.m. to the Moss Creek Mobile Home Park in the 2800 block of Moss Hollow Drive on a report of a fire, San Jose fire Capt. Mike Van Elgort said.

Van Elgort said crews found the front half of the home and carport engulfed in flames.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire by 2:25 a.m., he said.

Once inside, firefighters found Mesta dead in the back bedroom of the mobile home, he said.

The San Jose resident was the sole occupant of the home during the fire, Van Elgort said.

No other injuries were reported.

The home was considered a total loss, but Van Elgort said fire crews were able to prevent flames from spreading to two other mobile homes threatened by the fire.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
