Rain Likely Cause Of Several Major Crashes Around The Bay Area

CONCORD (CBS SF) -- Slick roads, wind and rain made Bay Area roadways into deadly collision courses on Saturday.

LOS GATOS: A collision on State Highway 17 involving at least two vehicles left one person dead, California Highway Patrol officials said early Sunday morning.

The first report of the collision in the southbound lanes of State Highway 17, just south of State Highway 85 in Los Gatos, came in at 11:48 p.m. Saturday, said CHP Officer William Ogilvie.

Ogilvie said there are no traffic delays as a result of the collision.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY: The California Highway Patrol said wet roads likely caused a fatal head-on crash in Contra Costa County.

It was raining Saturday morning when the driver of a Porsche lost control on Vasco Road and slammed into oncoming cars.

The driver was killed along with his dog. One of the other drivers was badly hurt.

CONCORD: Rain probably played a role in a crash in Concord Saturday night.

A car plowed into a tree after colliding with another vehicle near Highway 680 and Willow Pass Road.

Firefighters had to use the jaws of life to rescue two people inside. Fortunately they suffered only minor injuries.

The passengers in the other car were OK.
