Hall Of Famer Chris Carter Says Stickum Makes Jerry Rice A Cheater

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - The all-time NFL touchdown leader is a cheater, according to a fellow Hall of Fame NFL receiver reacting to news that Jerry Rice used a banned adhesive on his hands during games for the San Francisco 49ers.

In a video published by ESPN last month on the evolution of glove use among receivers, Rice said he used 'Stickum,' the trademark name of an adhesive formerly used by football players to get a better grip on the ball.

Stickum and other sticky substances were banned by the National Football League in 1981. Rice began his NFL career in 1985.

In the video, Rice says he put Stickum on his gloves. "I know this might be a little illegal, guys, I just put a little spray, a little stickum on them, to make sure that texture is a little sticky."

The revelation set off a massive backlash for Rice, who was just trowing the cheater label at the Patriots last month in response to the "deflate gate" scandal:

Rice has since tried to use the "hey everyone was doing it" defense:

Apparently another Hall of Fame pass catcher does not agree with that statement.

As CBS Sports points out, Rice was extremely vocal about the Patriots, saying any title should come with an asterisk. Now many fans are saying the same about his records.
