Elderly Man Beaten With Own Cane A Block Away From Tenderloin Police Station In Broad Daylight; Suspects Get Away

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF)__ Police in San Francisco say an elderly man was beaten with his own cane and pepper sprayed during a robbery in the city's Tenderloin neighborhood on Tuesday afternoon.

The robbery was reported around 12:10 p.m. near Leavenworth and Eddy streets, about a block away from the police department's Tenderloin station.

The 78-year-old victim was approached from behind by two suspects, one of whom grabbed his cane and struck him on the head with it.

The second suspect then pepper sprayed the victim, reached into his pocket and stole cash.

The suspects, a man believed to be in his 40's and a woman believed to be in her 30's, then fled and have not been found.

The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
