Steph Curry Used All-Star Weekend To Honor North Carolina Shooting Victim
OAKLAND (CBS SF) - Warriors star Stephen Curry has a special bond with his fans and to his roots in North Carolina. At the All-Star weekend in New York, the 3-point king directed his love at the family of the a supporter killed during last week's shooting in Chapel Hill.
Deah Shaddy Barakat was one of three people killed near the University of North Carolina campus. Upon learning that Barakat was a fan, Curry felt he needed to let the surviving family members know that Barakat was in his toughts.
The Warriors then sent out a picture of kicks Curry wore on Saturday:
After winning the 3-point shootout crown Saturday, Curry explained why he felt such a connection to the victim.
"I've been following the story all week," he said, according to Yahoo Sports. "There's been a lot of supporters of him and his family, Deah and his family. Obviously having North Carolina roots, and once I got to know who Deah was as a person and the stories everybody was telling me, it only seemed right to honor him and his family, and hopefully they know that people are thinking about them."
