Should I Believe These Forecasts For Snow In Tahoe This Weekend?

KPIX 5 Morning Weather Anchor Roberta Gonzales answers the questions you never get to ask on-air.

Q: Roberta, I heard you say snow in Tahoe this weekend? - Bill Elliott, Walnut Creek

A: Yes! Friday through Sunday, then again on Tuesday!

Snow is back in the forecast for the Greater Lake Tahoe area! Accumulations have not been determined, but all snow is welcomed! In addition to the impending snowfall,  many of the large Resorts, including Heavenly Mountain, has been relentless in making snow when weather conditions are stingy with precipitation.

What does it take to make snow? First of all,  it takes a snow gun or a snow cannon which combines air and water to form snow. The air temperature needs to be low, Overnight lows in the teen and twenties are preferable, low 30s are doable.

I have noticed a couple of the resorts are scheduled for a April 19, 2015 closing date, so as of today, the 2014-2015 ski and ride season is far from over! (And don't forget the after skiing "Apres" activities and Happy Hour specials on food and beverages!)
