Santa Barbara Killing Rampage Could Have Been Prevented, Victims' Families Claim In New Lawsuit
(CBS SF) -- Families and friends of Bay Area students killed in a shooting spree near UC Santa Barbara believe it could have been prevented.
Kelly Wang's son David was killed along with two others in an apartment they shared with Elliot Rodger.
The lawsuit says Rodger should have not been in student housing. Attorneys say a background check and a search online would have turned up red flags.
"All they had to do was to look on the Internet and found out this information was available and that Roger was not a suitable roommate," said Todd Becker, the family's attorney.
Attorneys say Rodger's online ranting and videos could have been easily found.
The lawsuit seeks damages from the apartment complex, the sheriff's department and the County of Santa Barbara.
A total of seven people were killed in last May's rampage.
