Violent Oakland Gang Suspected Of Following San Leandro Police Officers To Their Homes

SAN LEANDRO (KPIX 5) – Bay Area police officers may now be the target of one of Oakland's most violent street gangs. Authorities said gang members have even tracked officers to their homes.

It was Oakland Police who told San Leandro officers the threat is directly related to a shooting on December 7th, which left Guadalupe Ochoa dead. The incident began with a report of a stolen truck, a high-speed chase and Ochoa allegedly ramming San Leandro officers with the truck before Ochoa was killed.

Four days later, a San Leandro officer was followed to Livermore and found four men waiting in a vehicle outside his home.

"The men inside were dressed consistent with the clothing that this East Oakland gang wears," Lt. Bob McManus of the San Leandro Police Department told KPIX 5

Oakland and San Leandro detectives believe Ochoa had ties to that gang. The next incident happened after an arrest of a known gang member for firing a weapon outside Shiloh's bar in San Leandro. Another officer was followed, this time home to San Ramon.

While it's unknown if the two incidents are related, San Leandro officers are being extra cautious because of the gang believed to be at the center of the threats.

"We do have to take these threats as credible threats because we do know the history of this East Oakland gang. They are a violent, serious gang responsible for violent crime that occurs in the city of Oakland, it occurs in the city of San Leandro," McManus said.

In the incident in Livermore, the vehicle that was following the officer did not have a license plate and those people left the scene before Livermore police could get there to talk to the officer. In the San Ramon incident, there was a plate on the vehicle following that officer. San Ramon police are handling that investigation.
