$100K Club: Bay Area Home To 14 Cities With The Biggest Paychecks In America

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – A new report ranks the Bay Area as home to 14 of the highest earning cities in America.

NerdWallet analyzed census data for 1,601 U.S. cities and found only 57 cities where more than half of all households earn over $100,000 a year. Those households represent the top 20% of all earners in America according to current U.S. Census Bureau data. They also earn almost twice the U.S. median household income of $52,250.

Sammamish, Washington earned the number one spot on NerdWallet's list with 73.7% of all households earning $100,000 or more thanks to nearby employers like Microsoft, Amazon and Boeing.

Nonetheless, a whopping 23 California cities made it into the elite $100K club. More than half those cities are in the Bay Area to a large part thanks to Silicon Valley's booming economy.
