Disgruntled 49ers Fans Launch Kickstarter For Billboard Urging Owner Jed York's Resignation
SANTA CLARA (CBS SF) – In the wake of the loss of head coach Jim Harbaugh, the departure of several key players and numerous off the field issues, disgruntled San Francisco 49ers fans seek money for a billboard urging the resignation of team owner Jed York.
The group "Free the San Francisco 49ers" launched a Kickstarter campaign, seeking at least $89,000 for the billboard by May 11th. As of late Friday afternoon, 20 people have pledged $1,341.
If successful, Free the San Francisco 49ers hopes to eventually push the team to become a non-profit and have fans own the team, similar to the Green Bay Packers. For that to happen, the NFL would also have to amend a section of its constitution.

Anger at team management comes amid a rough month in an already tumultuous offseason. Earlier this month, fullback Bruce Miller was arrested after allegedly attacking his fiancée during a fight.
This week also marked the departure of several key players, including star running back Frank Gore signing with the Indianapolis Colts in free agency. Patrick Willis announced his retirement and Justin Smith is expected to also retire.
Oakland Raiders fans launched a similar campaign targeting their front office several years ago. In 2009, more than 25,000 Oakland Raiders fans raised enough money to put up a billboard near the O.Co Coliseum, asking then-owner Al Davis to step down as general manager.
Davis remained general manager until his death in 2011.
