Jan Wahl Movie Review: 'Run All Night' and 'Magician'

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS)— KCBS Entertainment editor Jan Wahl reviews "Run All Night" and "Magician".

Liam Neeson is not only a good actor, but excellent at action films. As he ages, that seems to be the direction he's going in and audiences are following him.  In "Run All Night" he is Jimmy Conlon, a longtime hired gun with one night to make a decision:  does he save his own estranged son, or does he give in to his only friend in the world… a mob boss whose bad guy son Jimmy has killed.  This is actually more storyline than we get in this underdeveloped, redundant movie.  With actors like Neeson, Ed Harris and others who can handle dialog and backstory, it 's boring to get mostly guns, car crashes and blood.  I'd check out Neeson in "Kinsey", "Schindler's" or "Taken"...  Harris in "The Abyss", "The Truman Show" or "Pollock".   But "Run All Night" is for download and nothing else.

MAGICIAN: THE ASTONISHING LIFE AND WORK OF ORSON WELLES (unrated)

He was a musical prodigy at 10, directing Shakespeare at 14, an international star of stage and radio at 20 and creator of "Citizen Kane" at 25. From panicking the country in "War of the Worlds" to great acting in "Touch of Evil" and "The Third Man", it's hard to encompass Orson Welles.  In this informative and entertaining documentary, some of Welles' friends and colleagues give us insight into his work and what happened to his later years.  Why did so much go so wrong?  This one will be streamed soon but try and find it where Welles always belongs: on the big screen.
