Hungry Sea Lion Attacks SoCal Fisherman Posing With Fish, Drags Him Into Water

MISSION BAY (CBS SF) -- A typical fishing photo-op turned into a terrifying attack, when a hungry sea lion leaped up and bit a fisherman posing with his catch, and dragged him to the bottom of the bay, severely injuring him.

According to the Los Angeles Times, a 62-year-old man was posing with his trophy fish Sunday, when the sea lion jumped over the boat rail to snatch the big fish, bit the man, and pulled him into the water.

The animal proceeded to drag the man to the bottom of Mission Bay, and bit him several times before he could get free. The man was submerged for 15 to 20 seconds, according to witnesses.

The victim was treated for shock and cuts to his feet and hands at a nearby hospital, according to local fire officials.

This attack comes just days after a sea lion bit a 5-year-old boy in the face. The animal was washed ashore, and officials believe it was distressed.

According to Inquisitr.com, the animal lunged at the boy and bit him in the jaw. The youth's father took him to a local hospital where he was treated for a minor puncture wound.
