Burglars Posing As Utility Workers Sought In San Jose

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- Police in San Jose are seeking the public's help in finding four burglars who have posed as utility workers to gain acceess to homes.

San Jose Police spokesman Officer Albert Morales said in a statement that the men identify themselves as water district employees or PG&E construction workers. They ask victims to go into their backyards and turn on water hoses while the others burglarize the home, Morales said.

In three separate burglaries last month, the men wear yellow or orange construction vests, hard hats and radios while talking to each other in Spanish. They were seen leaving in a white SUV or extended cab pickup truck.

Witnesses said the men were between 30 and 50 years old and Hispanic, although one was described as Middle Eastern or Samoan. Police provided sketches of two of the burglars.

Anyone with information on the burglaries was urged to contact San Jose Police.
