Early Morning Berkeley Shooting Injures Two Men, Sends Stray Bullets Into Neighbors' Homes
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- Two 20-year-old men were injured in a shooting in Berkeley Monday morning, according to the Berkeley Police Department.
The first report of the incident at Ashby and Shattuck avenues came in at 1:44 a.m., a police dispatcher said. Both men were taken to a hospital.
Police have not said what the condition of the men is. Officers are at the intersection investigating the incident and gathering evidence, according to police.
Some surrounding buildings were hit by stray gunfire.
One neighbor reported a bullet landed in his bed, and another neighbor said she saw a car quickly drive away, according to a tweet by UC Berkeley School of Journalism student Alissa Greenberg.
Police have closed the intersection as officers work and are asking motorists to use alternate routes when traveling.
Police said they will provide more information as it becomes available.
