Homeless Santa Rosa Man Recovering After Running Into Traffic, Getting Hit By Car

SANTA ROSA (CBS SF) -- Santa Rosa police have identified the pedestrian who was injured when he ran into a moving vehicle on Santa Rosa Avenue Sunday night as 50-year-old Dennis Anthony Rosa.

Rosa suffered life-threatening injuries when he ran into traffic on Santa Rosa Avenue and was struck by a vehicle Sunday night, Sgt. Ryan Corcoran said.

Rosa, a homeless man, was seen erratically running around the area of Santa Rosa and Sebastopol avenues around 9:35 p.m., Sgt. Ryan Corcoran said.

He ran east across Santa Rosa Avenue without warning into the right front side of a 2003 Toyota Corolla that was heading south, Corcoran said.

Rosa was thrown to the ground. He was found unconscious in the roadway, and was taken to a hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries, Corcoran said. His condition Monday was stable, Corcoran said.

The Toyota driver, Jessica Grace Velarde, 22, of South San Francisco, stopped at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, Corcoran said.

Anyone who saw the collision is asked to call Officer Mike Mieger at (707) 543-3636.
