49ers Hall Of Fame Tackle Bob St. Clair Dead At 84

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - One of the original 49ers legends has died.

Bob St. Clair an imposing tackle once named to the All-1950's NFL team, died Monday night in Santa Rosa at age 84 after complications from a broken hip, according to the Santa Rosa Press Democrat.

The 49ers confirmed his death Monday night.

He was an alumni of the University of San Francisco, which sent out this video chronicling his success in college:

The San Francisco native was drafted by his hometown team in 1953 and would earn a spot on nine Pro Bowl teams and captained the 49ers from 1957-1959, according to NFL.com. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1990, 27 years after his retirement.

The field at Kezar Stadium, where the 49ers played during his career, was renamed Bob St. Clair Field in 2001.

St. Clair is survived by his wive, children, 19 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, according to the Press Democrat.
