Rain Hits After 11 P.M. With Bay Area Showers Until Morning, 35+ M.P.H. Winds

SAN FRANCISCO (KPIX) -- After 11 p.m. Friday the Bay Area was forecast to get the first quenching drink of long-awaited rain, with showers moving through the entire Bay Area south to San Jose by 2 a.m. before the low pressure system clears out in the typically brief pattern of storms during this four-year drought.

The fast-moving system will hit the East Bay cities harder because of how the pattern is developing, with Pleasanton set to get around 0.6 inch of rain.

Ferry rides home Friday will be windy and rough with a small craft advisory in effect from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. as winds whip beyond 30 knots.

Up to a foot of snow is forecast for the Sierra, and chain controls are likely to be in effect for anyone heading to Tahoe and other mountain destinations. A "winter weather advisory" is in effect.

Morning baseball games may see puddles on the infield, so Little League parents will want to call to check on game status.

For the A's games tonight or Saturday afternoon, KPIX 5 meteorologist Roberta Gonzales said, "No worries! There will be no rain for either game, although bundle up and dress in layers with breezy winds and temps tonight in the mid-50s to low 60s on Saturday."
She added, "Do NOT cancel your Saturday afternoon outdoor plans! Rain will be out of here!"

She added, "I feel so confident in this forecast that I am going to the A's game tonight!"

The scant rainfall this weekend is not expected to have any effect on the drought other than possibly giving residents a day of free outside watering.

Gonzales said, "Before I head to sleep, I am placing all my flowers and plants outdoors tonight for a nice overnight drenching."

Keeping with the free water from the sky idea, maybe wipe your car down Saturday morning, and call it nature's car wash.
