7 Things Madison Bumgarner Has Done Over The Last 12 Months To Prove He's The Boss

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - Injuries to a pair of star pitchers have renewed the call to add the designated hitter to Major League Baseball's National League. While some pitchers have come out in support of the idea, Giants ace Madison Bumgarner is having no part of it. He wants to keep the game old school and keep a bat in his hand. It's just the latest reason for Giants fans to love their gritty southpaw. Here's our list of things only "MadBum" got done over the past year:

Defended His Right To Hit
When Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer said pitchers should give up hitting because they look like someone "swinging a wet newspaper," Bumgarner shot back with this.

Crushed More Grand Slams Than Just About Anyone
And why should pitchers still be allowed in the batter's box? One had the 3rd most grand slams in baseball last year. Any guesses who that was?

Let This Guy Off The Hook
MadBum has never been comfortable on camera, so it's no surprise he tried to move on without making this guy feel any more awkward during the MVP ceremony:

Chopped Down This Tree
What makes this more hard core is that the ad was for the construction apparel group Carhartt, and the spot was directed by none other than Khal Drogo of 'Game Of Thrones' fame.

Tossed The Most Impressive Postseason Performance Ever
52 plus innings and a 1.03 era, including two shutouts? Not even Sandy Koufax can match that, folks. If you can't recall, here's what World Series Game Five's masterpiece looked like:

Earned One Save
There was that five-inning appearance on short rest at the end of last year. I think we all remember what that visual, but if not:
