4-Month-Old Safe After Car She Was Riding In Stolen From San Francisco Street; Suspect Arrested

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A 4-month-old was back with her family safe and sound after the car she was riding in was stolen Wednesday in San Francisco.

"The car was running. Someone kicked the car. My husband came out of the car to check because he didn't know if he had hit someone. And that was when someone got in the car and drove off," the baby girl's mother, who did not provide her name said.

Police officers were flagged down on Golden Gate Avenue at 10:41 and told that a Toyota Scion had been stolen with the child inside. 10 minutes later, an officer spotted the vehicle on 7th Street in front of the Public Defender's office, recovered the infant and arrested the driver.

The girl's mother was clearly emotional during the reunion.

"I'm very relieved to reunite with my baby. Before I could find the baby, I was worried. She's so little, I didn't know what was going to happen to her," she said.

The suspect was later identified as San Francisco resident Solomon Alemu. Alemu now faces stolen vehicle, kidnapping and child endangerment charges on top of probation violation.

Alemu has no known link to the family.
