Man Expected To Survive After Being Shot In Face Aboard San Francisco Muni Train

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A man who was shot in the face on board a San Francisco Municipal Railway light-rail train in the city's Bayview District Monday afternoon was expected to survive his injuries, police said Wednesday.

The 19-year-old Vallejo resident was rushed to the intensive care unit of San Francisco General Hospital in critical condition after the shooting on Third Street between Oakdale and Palou avenues.

His injuries were considered life threatening, but as of today his condition had improved and he is expected to survive, police said.

The victim was riding on the T-Third train at 12:21 p.m. Monday when another passenger shot him at least once in the face. The shooter got off the train and fled the area.

There were numerous witnesses to the shooting and investigators are reviewing surveillance footage, but so far police have only described the suspect as a man between 18 and 25 years old who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt and baggy pants.

Police today said there was no new information about the investigation.

Anyone who may have information about the shooting has been asked to call the Police Department's anonymous tip line at (415) 575-4444 or to text a tip to 847411 with "SFPD" in the message.
