Trucker Drives Into Crowd Outside Bay Point Restaurant, 1 Dead, 8 Hurt

BAY POINT (KCBS) -- Investigators are trying to figure out why a man intentionally drove his truck into a crowd of people standing in the parking lot of a restaurant in Bay Point early Saturday. One person was killed, and 8 others injured.

It happened just before 2 a.m. at the La Finca Restaurant off Port Chicago, according to the Contra Costa Sheriff's department.

The driver was detained by restaurant security personnel and later taken into custody.

The victims were transported to four different area hospitals where one later died from injuries.

Investigators were still at the scene Saturday morning.

A press conference is scheduled for later in the day.
