Video Shows Man Forcing Way Into San Jose Home, Attacking Teen Girl In Broad Daylight

SAN JOSE (CBS SF) -- New surveillance video shows the man who San Jose police said was trying to sexually assault a 13-year-old in the middle of the day.

"My parents tell me the world is not a safe place," said the 13-year-old girl, who asked to stay anonymous.

The man approached the girl at her doorstep, holding his phone like he was recording her, pretending to be lost.

He kept asking for her name and age, but she refused.

"He started asking me really inappropriate questions," she said. "So that's when I decided to run inside the house. And I tried to slam the door on him. But I couldn't. So he gets inside, then he tries to grab me. So I push him back, I try to get him off of me, and then I slam my hand into his face, and that's when he decides to get off of me."

At one point he has both hands around the back of her head, pulling her head toward his chest when she smacks him in the face.

"I just see this man on top of me, and I'm like 'What's going on? How is this happening to me?'" she said.

She slips on the rug and falls to the ground and breaks free.

The girl gets up and never turning her back to the attacker, takes off her backpack and starts looking for a sharp or heavy object to use as a weapon.

The man checks outside, closes the door and steps toward her again. But then he pauses, seems to have second thoughts then turns and leaves.

"And if he was really, really vicious, he would've came after me, and started doing things inside the house," the girl said.

Last month San Jose police believe the same man, wearing a green shirt, followed a woman into a bathroom at a nearby supermarket and tried to sexually assault her.

The man captured in the photographs has a beard and the same M.O.

As for the girl's mother, she says the attack has shattered their sense of security.

"Very heartbroken (that) this kind of thing can happen in this neighborhood, inside my home," she said. "It's very sick."

On Tuesday, police said this person, described as a white man about 30 years old with a medium height, a thin build and a beard, is believed to have followed the 13-year-old girl as she walked home from school. (San Jose Police)

San Jose police are especially concerned because the man is becoming increasingly bold. These attacks are happening in broad daylight, and the man apparently has no fear of getting caught.

The suspect is described as a white male adult, approximately 30-years-old, medium height, thin build, with a beard. He was last seen wearing a black beanie, blue long-sleeve button-down shirt, and light-colored cargo shorts. He was also seen carrying a dark-colored messenger bag. The suspect may be riding a light blue 10-speed-style bicycle.

Anyone with information about him has been asked to call San Jose police Detective Brandon Scholten at (408) 277-4102. Anonymous tips can be left at the Crime Stoppers tip line at (408) 947-7867.
