Thieves Nabbed After Swiping $160,000 In Apple Products From San Jose Mall
SAN JOSE (KPIX 5) -- A group of thieves stole more than $150,000 worth of electronics from a San Jose mall, without ever stepping foot inside. It was a high-priced theft that four suspected criminals nearly got away with.
San Jose police said four men were at the Westfield Oakridge Mall in South San Jose on Tuesday, but not to go inside the mall. Their operation took place outside.
Police said as shoppers passed them by, the men broke into a FedEx truck, before the driver could even unload the goods. The men were allegedly able to load a van with $160,000 worth of Apple products.
Investigators said the men drove off, but didn't know someone saw them broke into the truck and called police.
Officers said the men tried to run, but didn't get very far.
The suspects are all from the Los Angeles area and face several charges, including grand theft and resisting arrest.
KPIX 5 reached out to FedEx to see if Apple got its products back or whether the driver followed protocol when leaving the truck alone. A spokesperson said they don't release details about customers or security procedures.
