Major BART Delays Over Equipment Problems At 24th Street Station Easing
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) – BART service is beginning to recover Thursday evening from major delays systemwide causing by an equipment problem in San Francisco.
BART first reported the problem with equipment near the 24th Street station around 5:30 p.m.
The delays were caused by a track control issue on the tracks in that area that required all trains to operate in manual mode during peak commute hours, according to BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost.
They were made worse by crowded platforms, which forced trains to dwell longer at stations, Trost said.
The system is recovering now that peak commute hours are passing and some trains are leaving the system, relieving congestion. Delays were around 10 minutes as of around 7 p.m. and are expected to continue to improve as the night continues.
