CA High School Athlete Stripped Of State Championship Titles Over Missing Administrative Paperwork

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- Missing school administrative paperwork has cost a San Jose teen four state championship track and field titles, according to San Jose Mercury News.

California Interscholastic Federation's Central Coast Section (CCS) stripped Reonna Collier of four championship track and field titles for Piedmont Hills High because transfer paperwork was never filed when she came to the school.

Collier was a freshman when she transferred mid-term to Piedmont Hills from Vanden High, in Fairfield. She came in time for track season and would go on to win the CCS state championship in the 300 meter hurdles. Her 40.90 second win was the 10th fastest in California history, and earned her the title of Mercury News Athlete of the Year for girls track and field.

Collier would win four individual titles in all, a first for any Piedmont Hills freshman.

Piedmont Hills coach and family friend Chioke Robinson said Collier left Piedmont in April, transferring to yet another school in Vacaville when her parents got back together.

Apparently, school administrators never submitted the paperwork to CCS for the first transfer that brought Collier to Piedmont in the first place.

Piedmont administrators insist they never hid the fact that Collier was a transfer student.

The school blames the incident on "administrative oversight" and is "going to put things in place to make sure that doesn't happen again."
