Rainfall Totals Modest, But We'll Take Anything We Can Get

SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) - It's not even going to amount to a free car wash, but that won't stop the drought-plagued Bay Area from celebrating the rare June precipitation we saw Wednesday morning.

As of 8:30 a.m. we had seen close to a quarter of an inch of rain in the wettest locations like Napa, Pleasanton and Castro Valley, each of those totaled at least .16 inch of rain. Even the driest locations - like Watsonville, Fremont and Foster City had seen a measurable sprinkling at least .01 inch.

KPIX 5 Chief Meteorologist Paul Deanno said the showers are "the result of what's left of former Hurricane Blanca. This is wonderful news, as we're entering the heart of fire season and any rainfall will keep that fire danger in check."

Readings of at least a tenth of an inch were common across the far East Bay and for much of Napa County. Here's the complete county-by-county list of National Weather Service totals from the last 24 hours.

Despite the wet start, most of the day will end up feeling muggy by Bay Area standards, with the highest inland temperatures hitting the mid 80's.
