San Francisco Richmond District 'Corpse House' Sells For $1.03 Million
SAN FRANCISCO (CBS SF) -- A home in San Francisco's Richmond District which attained notoriety because it once housed a mummified corpse has been sold over its asking price of just under $1 million.
The Victorian home at 152 4th Ave. described as a "major-fixer" was listed for $928,000 and sold for $1,029,500 to an unidentified buyer, according to real estate news website SocketSite.
Last April, police found the body of the previous owner wrapped in a blanket inside the home. She had been dead for five years. The woman's daughter who lived in the home apparently knew about her mother's corpse amid the floor-to-ceiling trash which had accumulated in the home for over a decade. She was evaluated for mental illness.
The two-bath, two-bedroom home was listed by Zephyr Real Estate as having, "Lots of Vintage Charm/Details and a real News Worthy [sic] History."
SocketSite reported the sale will require court confirmation since the woman's death was never reported.
The report also said while the $1.09 million bid was tentatively accepted, interested parties will have an opportunity to bid higher at an estate probate hearing, the date still to be determined.
