Surveillance Video Shows Dam Vandalized, 50 Million Gallons Of Water Lost
FREMONT (CBS SF) -- Fremont police hope surveillance video will help them find three men suspected of vandalizing a dam, wasted millions of gallons of water in the process.
The newly-released surveillance footage shows the men entering a restricted area of Alameda Creek and intentionally damaging an inflatable dam.
The dam is used in the Alameda County Water District's operations to recharge the Niles Cone Groundwater Basin, one of the district's main water supplies.
The damage sent an estimated 50 million gallons of water -- enough to supply nearly 500 homes for one year -- rushing down the creek. The dam will cost $3 million to replace.
Based on the surveillance images, the suspects are described as:
Suspect #1: Adult male, medium build, short cropped hair, wearing long sleeved shirt, and unknown colored pants.
Suspect #2: Unknown aged subject, thin/medium build, wearing hooded sweatshirt with hood up, and unknown color pants.
Suspect #3: Unknown aged subject, thin/medium build, wearing light colored shirt and unknown color pants.
The district is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspects responsible for this crime.
