Mysterious Donor Gives $34M To Oakland Schools, Nonprofits

OAKLAND (CBS/AP) — An anonymous person has donated $34 million dollars to the Oakland Unified School District and dozens of nonprofit organizations to help children and low-income entrepreneurs.

KGO-TV reports the person who gave the money to the San Francisco Foundation asked that it be invested across the bay, in Oakland.

San Francisco Foundation spokesman Fred Blackwell said Tuesday the donor wants to remain anonymous and that the person asked the grant be transformative.

The anonymous donation will reach people across Oakland with at least 17 organizations benefiting.

Some of the organizations include the Asian Health Services, which is receiving $3 million that will help renovate the clinic serving patients who don't speak English.

The East Oakland Youth and Development Center received a $1 million donation to expand their building and mission.
