WATSONVILLE (CBS SF) -- A man was robbed at gunpoint by a skateboarder in Watsonville early Saturday morning, according to police.

The victim was waiting for a ride in the vicinity of S. Green Valley Road and Hope Drive at 5:24 a.m. when a man on a skateboard approached him.

The suspect pulled a pistol from his waistband, pointed it at the victim and demanded cash, according to police.

When the victim said he had no cash, the suspect stole his backpack, which had been sitting on the ground. The suspect fled the scene on his skateboard, and was last seen headed west on S. Green Valley Road, police said.

The suspect was described as a thin-built Hispanic male standing 5 feet 5 inches tall. He's thought to be roughly 18 years old, and was last seen wearing dark pants and a red sports jacket with a white stripe down the right side, according to police.
